The Titans roll to defeat Holy Cross

Facing their first Test in nearly two weeks, the No. 22 IU South Bend came off slow in the opening minutes but cruised to an 83-50 victory at Holy Cross in the city’s men’s basketball rivalry on Monday night .

The Titans trailed 8-0 after going scoreless in the opening three minutes. The guests responded, however, to take a 38-24 halftime lead after Donyell Meredith’s three-pointer at the buzzer.

The Saints couldn’t recover in the second half as IUSB came out after the break on a 14-4 run, increasing their lead to 52-28. The Titans led by as much as 35 points in the final minutes, earning their fifth straight win over Holy Cross.

Dylan Allen led all scorers with 17 points in the victory, as four Titans in all finished in double figures. Meredith had 15 points, as he and Allen both went 7 for 10 from the floor. Kenny Washington scored 13, including ten in the second half, and Sergio Diaz scored 12.

Mick Sullivan scored 16 points to lead Holy Cross. Former Penn High School player Beau Ludwick had 11 points and eight rebounds for the Saints.

IUSB improves to 13-3 overall and moves to 9-1 in CCAC play. Holy Cross drops to 9-11 and 4-8.

The Titans continue a five-game streak over the next ten days Wednesday night, when they return to the Student Activity Center for their first home game in more than a month to host St. Francis at 7:30 p.m.

Holy Cross also returns to home action on Wednesday night against Calumet College at 7:30 p.m.

The women of Sainte-Croix victorious

The Holy Cross women’s basketball team beat Trinity Christian 77-55 in a conference game on Monday night.

Rookie Grace Adams led the Saints with 19 points in the CCAC home win. The former Penn High School player shot 7-11 from the field and also had nine rebounds.

Junior Jayda Miller, a Mishawaka High School product, had 15 points. Freshman Jordyn Smith, who played at Penn, added 12 points.

Holy Cross, now 9-9 overall and 5-6 in the CCAC, hosts Calumet Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
