On Sunday, April 3, 2022, the 4th Sunday of Lent, the Patriarchate of Jerusalem celebrated the Feast of Adoration of the Holy Cross at the Monastery of the Holy Cross in West Jerusalem, near the Jewish Knesset.
This feast is instituted by the Patriarchate of Jerusalem to be celebrated in this Monastery one week after the celebration of the 3rd Sunday of Lent at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, due to the tradition of the Church that Lot planted the wood there at three compounds which was then used to make the cross on which our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified.
In honor of the Holy Cross, Saturday afternoon Vespers and Sunday morning Divine Liturgy were celebrated by Metropolitan Isychios of Kapitolias, with the co-celebration of Archimandrites Ignatios and Klaudios, Archdeacon Mark and of the hierodeacon Simeon. The chant was delivered by Gotsopoulos and the services were attended by Christian, Greek, Palestinian, Russian, Romanian worshipers from Jerusalem and the occupied territories, as well as the Consul General of Greece in Jerusalem Evangelos Vlioras, members of the Greek Consulate and Georgia Lasha’s ambassador.
After the Divine Liturgy, there was a litany with the Holy Cross, and Bishop Philoumenos de Pella, who takes good care of the Monastery, hosted a reception at the Hegoumeneion and in the courtyard of the Monastery.
