SPEAKER SERIES: Orthodox Scholars Preach – Holy Cross Sunday, March 27 – SPEAKER SERIES: Orthodox Scholars Preach

The Center for Orthodox Christian Studies at Fordham University, in collaboration with the Department of Religious Education of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, and with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, is pleased to present the lecture series: Orthodox scholars preach.

Each week until Easter, a different Orthodox scholar will post a new video. This series provides a platform for Orthodox scholars to reflect on the spiritual themes of the liturgical calendar each Sunday while drawing on their expertise.

This week’s sermon for Holy Cross Sunday is given by Fr. Bogdan Bucur, Associate Professor of Patristics at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in Crestwood, NY. Born in Romania, he studied at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Bucharest (1994-1999). He received his MA (2002) and Ph.D. (2007) in Religious Studies from Marquette University under (now Archbishop) Alexander Golitzin. In 2010 he was ordained a priest in the Orthodox Archdiocese of Antioch and served as pastor of St Anthony Orthodox Church in Butler, Pennsylvania (2010-2020). He is the author of Angelomorphic Pneumatology: Clement of Alexandria and Other Early Christian Witnesses (Brill, 2009), Scripture Re-Envisioned: Christophanic Exegesis and the Making of a Christian Bible (Brill 2019) and a number of articles and d trials.
