Professor Nicholas Ganson of Hellenic College Holy Cross gives a presentation to Fulbright Scholars

Professor Nicholas Ganson, co-director of the bicentenary exhibition The Greek Revolution through American Eyes, currently on display at HCHC’s Maliotis Cultural Center, gave a presentation entitled “Greek Fever: Philhellenism, Humanitarianism and Reform” via a lecture Web for Northern Greece Fulbright Scholars. on December 20, 2021.

He provided insight into the interplay between philhellenism, humanitarianism, and the ideal of freedom, as seen in the activism of prominent American Grecophiles Edward Everett and Samuel G. Howe in favor of the Greek cause, and later, in the domestic reform and abolitionist movement. . Professor Ganson, the co-director of the exhibition, Dr Tom Papademetriou from the University of Stockton, and other participants of the event were also treated to a magnificent program of kalanda broadcast live by the choir of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Professor Ganson is Assistant Professor of History and Co-Chair of the Literature and History Program at Hellenic College, as well as Director of the New York Life Insurance Company Center for the Study of Hellenism in Pontus and Asia Minor.
