Mountain Hawks host Holy Cross at Leadership Park for three-game series

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Lehigh softball team will return to Patriot League play as Holy Cross visits Leadership Park this weekend for a three-game series. The Mountain Hawks got off to a 4-0 start in Patriot League play after two weekends of league action.

The series will include a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon and a single match on Sunday starting at noon as well.

Lehigh sits at 13-12 on the season. The Mountain Hawks saw their eight-game winning streak end with a 20-2 loss at home to Delaware on Wednesday. Senior Jaelynn Chesson, the reigning Patriot League Player of the Week, was the Mountain Hawks’ most explosive hitter with a .361 batting average, nine home runs and 24 RBIs. Senior Carly Barjaktarovich and Junior Emilie Cimino both have a team-high 27 hits, with Cimino adding two home runs and 19 RBIs.

Senior Gabrielle Nori (6-6) and second year Katelyn Young (6-5) leads Lehigh’s pitching rotation. Nori holds a 3.58 ERA, allowing just six walks and 63 strikeouts in 58.2 innings pitched. Young had wins in the final two games of Lehigh’s sweep over Lafayette last weekend.

Holy Cross is 11-20 overall and 3-3 in Patriot League play this season. In the league, Holy Cross won two of three games at Bucknell and lost two of three at home to Colgate. The Crusaders offense is led by sophomore Jessica Mott who has a .330 batting average with a team-high 32 hits. Mott also contributed two home runs and 10 RBIs. Senior Kelly Nelson is the leading pitcher with an 8-11 record and a 2.22 ERA with 138 strikeouts in 119.2 innings pitched.

Lehigh leads 94-20 in the all-time series against Holy Cross with the Mountain Hawks sweeping the Crusaders in all four games last season.

After the series against Holy Cross, Lehigh will host Princeton for a doubleheader on Wednesday. The first game is scheduled for 3 p.m. and both games will be broadcast on ESPN+. The Mountain Hawks next face Rider in a doubleheader on April 17 to complete their 11-game homestand.
