Baseball Zone Readiness Report for Friday, March 18
John Curtis Christian shut out St. Martin’s Episcopal 6-0 at Mike Miley Stadium in the Archbishop Shaw Tournament.
The Patriots scored the only run they would need late in the first inning and added two runs in the second inning to lead 3-0. John Curtis added two runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth to complete the scoring.
Logan O’Neill, Cameron Romano and Josh Lopez combined the shutout, allowing just two hits with 15 strikeouts. O’Neill took the win, going three hitless innings, striking out seven Saints.
O’Neill helped himself with a hit and two RBIs while Austin Ackel, Dagan Bruno, Brad Chaisson and Syris McClinton each had a hit and an RBI on a seven-hit offense .
Bryson Gorrondona took the loss for St. Martin’s, pitching three innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Matthew Dufrene pitched the last three innings. Davie Helwig and Daniel Schexnaildre each had one hit for St. Martin’s.
Curtis (7-7) will face Newman tonight at 7 p.m. St. Martin’s (2-11) takes on Patrick Taylor at 4 p.m. at Shaw.
Holy Cross scored a narrow 9-4 win over powerhouse Baton Rouge Catholic at Tiger Park.
Eighth-year Dominic Pellegrin had a double and three RBIs to highlight the Tigers’ offense.
Holy Cross (7-9) has won five of its last six games and will face Central Lafourche today. Catholic fell to 11-4 with the loss.
Brother Martin beat Hahnville 6-5 in a 10 inning marathon at Holy Cross.
Bryce Gauthier homered in the top of the tenth inning to give himself the margin of victory.
In a tight game throughout, Brother Martin scored a run early in the first before Hahnville responded with two runs late in the first to take a 2-1 lead.
Each team scored twice in the fourth and the Crusaders tied with a run in the top of the fifth to make it 4-4. Hahnville scored a run in the bottom of the sixth but Brother Martin extended the game with a run in the top of the seventh to send it into extra innings tied at 5-5.
Collin Roussel had three hits and walked twice for the Crusaders and Eli Booth drove in three runs.
Aidan Machado and Talan Theriot each had three hits for Hahnville while Beau Parker drove in two runs for the Tigers.
Alex Laiche pitched five innings, allowing four runs while striking out eight before Sam Gernhauser pitched five innings, allowing just one run on three hits and striking out six for the victory.
Hahnville had beaten Brother Martin 12-6 on February 24.
Brother Martin (10-4) next faces Sud Terrebonne on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Destrehan as Hahnville (5-13) lost its fifth straight game.
