Huffington Ecumenical Institute will be established at Hellenic College Holy Cross

New York – The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America is pleased to announce a donation to the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology at Hellenic College by Mr. Michael Huffington. The generous gift of $2.5 million and a matching gift of $2.5 million from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America will establish the Huffington Ecumenical Institute on the HCHC campus in Brookline, MA. The Archdiocese’s contribution was funded by proceeds from the estate of Suzanne Mados whose bequest made it possible, in part, to fund Greek Orthodox schools run by the Archdiocese.

After receiving the donation, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America said, “Mr. Michael Huffington, a devout Greek Orthodox Christian, has again answered the call of our Church. He offered a very generous gift which, supported by our Holy Archdiocese’s matching grant, will establish an institute that will foster ecumenical dialogue in the future. I deeply appreciate the close relationship with Michael and am grateful for his vision and commitment to our Archdiocese and to Hellenic College Holy Cross.

The Huffington Ecumenical Institute will develop and conduct programs and studies concerning the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church and the Episcopal Church that aim to foster dialogue among the three churches. Hellenic College Holy Cross will only determine the programs and studies that will be part of its academic programs and will consult with the Huffington Ecumenical Institute located at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. The Huffington Ecumenical Institute will operate from the property formally known as the Barletta Property.
