“We want to recognize you because it is a very beautiful achievement,” said the mayor
As the school year draws to a close, Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School held an end-of-year devotional on Thursday in which the school honored its women’s soccer team for winning the gold OFSAA at the beginning of the month.
Holy Trinity Tigers won the 2022 OFSAA AA Women’s Football Championship on home soil as hosts of the tournament this year with 20 teams in Bradford competing for gold. The season ended with Holy Trinity defeating Thomas A. Blakelock 2-1 in the championship game.
To celebrate the team’s achievement, Principal Heinrich Bebie invited Mayor Rob Keffer and the rest of Bradford West Gwillimbury Council to the meeting, who played a vital role in organizing the tournament.
“I’m very honored to have our Mayor Rob Keffer and councilors here,” Bebie said.
Addressing a gymnasium full of students and staff, the room erupted with joy as Keffer asked everyone to join him in congratulating the girls’ soccer team on their victory.
“A few weeks ago, the Holy Trinity Tigers women’s soccer team were crowned the 2022 OFSAA AA Women’s Soccer Champions,” Keffer said. “We would like to thank you because this is a very fine achievement. On behalf of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, members of the community, myself as Mayor and other members of Council, congratulate you on this achievement.
“We are incredibly proud of you for achieving this goal on your sporting journey. To the coaching staff, thank you for being so dedicated to instilling sport skills, perseverance and dedication in our future leaders.”
Keffer and board members presented the team with a framed certificate of congratulations on behalf of the city that included a team photo alongside a roster of players to hang on school walls.
“Let this framework be a reminder of what you have accomplished for your school and for your community,” Keffer said. “Your commitment to achieving your goal will be with you for the rest of your life. Congratulations to the entire school, from the coaching staff to the principal to the parents and everyone who supported this tournament and the team. Go them Tigers!”
The school has been selected to host the OFSAA Men’s Football Tournament in 2023.
