Holy Cross boys and college girls win regional Class A track titles

The boys and girls track teams at Holy Cross High School won the team titles on Wednesday at the Class A, Region Three meet, held in Assumption Green.

Holy Cross won the boys’ title with 176 points and was followed by Collegiate (151) and Walden (90).

Led by Jackson Gawarecki, Josh Meiman, DK Schnieders and Triston Key, Holy Cross dominated the distance events and also won the 400 meters and 3,200 relays.

Collegiate’s Trevor Holbrook swept the 100, 200 and 400 dashes.

Collegiate won the women’s title with 125 points and was followed by Holy Cross (106) and Presentation (94).

Alexandra Allen of Collegiate swept the 100, 200 and 400 and was also part of the victorious 1600 relay team. Reese Ragland, of Collegiate, won the 800 and 1600, was part of the victorious relay team out of 1,600 and finished second in the 400.

Amelia Svidal of Walden won the 100 hurdles and the long jump and was second in the triple jump.

The top graduates qualified for the State Class A competition scheduled for June 10 at the University of Kentucky’s Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
