Holy trinity

Fan compares DCEU Trinity to Holy Trinity in new infographic

With decades of history, passionate fan bases, and cultural recognition, the trio of Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman is significant. All three teamed up on screen last year Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and should meet in November Justice League. And one DC fan argues that these on-screen representations have a rather divine connection.

An image circulating on Twitter compares the fictional trilogy to an important one – the Holy Trinity. Christian belief consists of three figures – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And the infographic explains quite convincingly why the DC Extended Universe Trinity is similar.

Wonder Woman, whose solo film debuts this weekend, is considered “The Mother.” The fan contends that the Princess of Themyscira fits the role thanks to her importance in the origin of the DCEU, her “uncorrupted heroism” and her ability to unite both Batman and Superman, as well as the remaining members of the Justice League.

Batman, on the other hand, is identified as the “troubled child” of the triumvirate. According to the fan, much of Batman’s motivation is rooted in his role as a son – especially after his parents died.

The last member of the trio, Superman, is considered the “Holy Spirit”. This is justified by the importance of its role as a symbol in society. The fan puts it simply by saying that the Son of Krypton is “a symbol of what might be.”

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne calls on his new ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater foe. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to fight this newly awakened menace. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes – Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash – it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, from a screenplay by Chris Terrio, based on a story by Snyder and Terrio, and stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Amy Adams, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, JK Simmons and Ciarán Hinds.
