People who want their first or second dose can go to a clinic. on a single storey basis. Vaccines are available on a first come basis, while supplies last and without an appointment. Vaccines are also available to residents of the COVID-19 Immunization Center, 29 Sperling Dr. in Barrie until September 29 by appointment or walk-in.
COVID-19 vaccines are available for people who will be 12 years old in 2021 (born 2009) and older and need their first or second dose. Second doses should be at least 21 days after a first dose of Pfizer vaccine, at least 28 days after a first dose of Moderna vaccine, or eight weeks after a first dose of AstraZeneca with informed consent.
Health unit staff can also deliver vaccines to the community at beaches, parks, farmers’ markets, sports complexes, and outdoor retail areas, making vaccination easier than ever. Whether in a clinic or in the community, SMDHU staff providing vaccinations will wear blue COVID-19 vaccine t-shirts and their SMDHU employee badge for identification. Residents and visitors aged 12 and older are encouraged to get their COVID-19 vaccine before the cooler fall weather arrives that bring people indoors.
When attending a clinic, people are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather, as they may be required to wait outside before entering the clinic. They are also reminded to bring a health card, a list of all the medications they are taking, to wear a loose shirt that allows easy access to the upper arm, and to bring all assistive devices. necessary (eg scooter, wheelchair, cane).
