Community Thanksgiving feast set for Thursday at Holy Rosary – Detroit Lakes Tribune

Holy Rosary Catholic Church is preparing to open its doors to the public this Thursday, November 25 for the annual Thanksgiving community celebration.

Although the feast took place last year, restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the church from opening its parish center to the public, and those enjoying the meal were expected to do so from the comfort of their own homes. foyer, with only take-out or delivery options available. .

“We’re getting back to normal this year, where you can sit and eat right in the church hall,” says Holy Rosary member Matt Brenk, who along with his wife Mary have hosted the event for a decade.

Take-out and delivery options will also be available, though Brenk asks those who want meals delivered to their home or business to be sure to call the church by Wednesday afternoon 24 November and to indicate where, as well as the number of meals. deliver.

There is no charge for the meal, although Brenk said voluntary donations to help defray costs are gratefully accepted.

“We usually get enough (in donations) to cover the food,” he said.

Volunteers are also welcome to help, either to serve the meal in the parish hall or to help with the preparations for the feast, which begins on Wednesday afternoon around 3 p.m.

“We get the turkeys and the potatoes washed and ready to boil, things like that,” Brenk said of Wednesday’s prep work. “Anyone who wants to help with that, or serve the meal, can call me.”

The community party is open to everyone, he added.

“All Detroit Lakes Area residents, especially those who will be alone or otherwise unable to participate in the Thanksgiving celebration, are invited,” he said. “You do not need to be a member of the Holy Rosary to attend.”
